What types of projects does AJ Hackett Design & Construction do?
We have the flexibility to accommodate a variety of projects that range in scale from new construction and whole house remodels,
to building small built-ins and cabinetry.
Your company lists Design-Build in it's services. What exactly is "Design-Build" and how is it different?
Simply put, the company that designs your project, either new construction or remodeling, is also the company that builds it. It’s considered by many to be a more streamlined and cost effective process and is often credited for reducing costs, decreasing building time, and increasing the ease to make design changes during construction. The Design-Build approach has been a rapidly expanding way of building over the last twenty years. Currently, more that half of all construction projects are completed using this format. The biggest advantage is that you’re dealing with one company to design, produce plans, obtain permits, and build or remodel, rather than multiple companies. The old traditional approach started with an architect and was called Design-Bid-Build. With the advent of computers, specialty software, and sophisticated calculators, many technical aspects of building design and plan production are now automated.
Do you only construct projects you design?
No, first and foremost, we're a general contracting / construction company. We also build projects designed by other designers and architects, and we're very respectful of the client-architect-builder relationship.
Is an architect required to get plans approved through the city or county planning/building departments?
No. A homeowner, building designer, general contractor or architect can produce and submit building plans to the city or county. As long as the plans are complete, accurate, and provide the required details, anyone can apply for building permits.
